Agricultural Multimedia Technology Institute of South China Agricultural University was established in February 2010. It is a university-level research institution. The main feature of the institute is biology science. And it uses informatics, mathematical and physical methods to research the hardware and software of multimedia technology.

In recent years, the main research areas are the following two aspects:

(1)  Plant morphology analysis and modeling

Based on digital image processing, computational geometry, free-form surface modeling techniques, neural networks and wavelet analysis methods to study the geometry modeling and calculation of plant morphology.

(2) Traceability technology for food safety

Fractal theory based electronic label production is another research direction of the Institute. This technology is mainly used for food safety and construction monitoring, and already been patented.
