The Institute of Applied Mathematics (IAM) of South China Agricultural University (SCAU) was founded in 2006. During the recent 10 years, we have made great progress in the construction of disciplines and talent teams, especially in such aspects as degree programs, key disciplines, and provincial & ministerial-level science-technology awards. Due to these prominent achievements, the AMI was rewarded as the ''Eleventh Five-Plan'' advanced research institute of SCAU in 2011.
The IAM now has 10 professors and 25 associated professors, among whom 20 are supervisors of postgraduate candidates and 5 are Ph.D. supervisors. 34 teachers have attained Ph.D. degrees, and 12 teachers have oversea experiences. In addition, there are 2 teachers awarded as the members of "Guangdong Excellent Teachers", and 10 teachers are selected as the cultivated talents by the "Thousand-Hundred-Ten" program of Guangdong Province. Two teachers has been selected as the cultivated talents of "Excellent Young Teacher of Guangdong Province", and one teacher has been awarded as the member of the "National Prestigious Teacher" and "Ten Thousand Talent Program".
The IAM attaches great importance to scientific research and has made great progress in scientific research in the recent 5 years. The IAM has published a large number of scientific articles, and hosted many research projects, including National Natural Foundations and Natural Foundations of Guangdong Province. In 2011, the subject of Mathematics was granted as the first-level discipline to offer master degree, and the subject of Applied Mathematics was granted as the Key Discipline of Guangdong Province in 2012. The IAM won a second-class prize of Natural Science Prize and a second-class prize of Scientific and Technological Progress Award in 2012 and 2015, respectively.
There are 5 research groups with solid research basis, including Functional Analysis and Its Applications, Complex Analysis Theory and Its Applications, Differential Equations and Their applications, The Theory of Probability and Statistics and Its applications, and Numerical Calculation and Image Processing. In the recent 5 years, the research teams have hosted 14 national-level projects and 15 provincial-level projects, published 20 research articles collected in SCI, and cultivated 10 Ph.D. students and 20 postgraduate candidates.
