Master of engineering combining computer science of South China Agricultural University was established in 1998 and enrolled Computer Applications specialized graduates under Management Science and Engineering, the First Level Discipline. It was authorized to confer Master's Degree for the Secondary Discipline of Computer Application and Technology in 2003. Later in 2010, it was authorized to confer Master's Degree for the First Level Discipline of Computer Science and Technology (CST), and Professional Master's Degree for Master of Engineering in Computer Technology.

The Advantage and Characteristic: it has long-term cooperation with Guangdong Wen’s Food Group Co., Ltd, the national biggest livestock husbandry company, and forms a certain characteristic in Information, Networking Project and Big Data Analysis on Animal Husbandry.

Personnel Training Objects: to foster application-oriented and composite high-tech IT technology and IT management talents, who meet the social requirements of knowledge, ability and overall quality towards computer talents and have solid basic knowledge, all-round quality, engineering practical ability and certain innovative ability.

CST covers three secondary disciplines, namely Computer System and Architecture, Computer Software and Theory, as well as Computer Application and Technology.

The four research direction of Computer System and Architecture (081201): the Internet of Things, Parallel Computing, Cyber Security and Embedded System.

The four research direction of Computer Software and Theory (081202): Information Safety, Software Engineering, Cloud Computing and Big Data, as well as Artificial Intelligence.

 The four research direction of Computer Application and Technology (081203): Machine Learning and Computer Vision, Intelligent Information Processing, Robotics, and Information Management and Engineering.

The faculty of CST is composed of 33 master supervisors, including 18 professors, 10 associate professors and 5 lecturers.

MECT owns good reputation among many prestigious IT enterprises, and each year, quite a few students take the job and become core technicians of these enterprises including Huawei, Ali, Baidu, Tencent, Google, Microsoft and IBM, etc.
