Title: Systems Engineering Issues in Smart Nation Cybersecurity

Abstract:
Cybersecurity is gaining ever-increasing importance in the national agenda and is an area of phenomenal growth internationally. The scope of Cybersecurity is much bigger than traditional Enterprise Security. Cybersecurity has evolved and grown to include not only traditional IT system but also to IoT system which is a key enabler of smart city/nation. IoT will soon become the biggest vector of attacks on organizations, as the number of connected devices is set to grow explosively. This talk will start with an introduction of the notion of cybersecurity and how it distinguishes from traditional IT security. It gives an overview of a typical scenario of smart nation operations as an IoT system, and the cyber security issues affecting them. The systems engineering issues and design considerations of smart nation cybersecurity will be discussed.
Biography:
Professor Lam is a Professor of Computer Science at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He is currently the Program Chair (Secure Community) of the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of NTU. Professor Lam has been a Professor of the Tsinghua University, PR China (2002-2010) and a faculty member of the National University of Singapore and the University of London since 1990. He was a visiting scientist at the Isaac Newton Institute of the Cambridge University and a visiting professor at the European Institute for Systems Security. In 1997, he founded PrivyLink International Ltd, a spin-off company of the National University of Singapore, specializing in e-security technologies for homeland security and financial systems. In 2012, he co-founded Soda Pte Ltd which won the Most Innovative Start Up Award at the RSA 2015 Conference. In 1998, he received the Singapore Foundation Award from the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in recognition of his R&D achievement in Information Security in Singapore. Prof Lam received his B.Sc. (First Class Honours) from the University of London in 1987 and his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in 1990. His research interests include Distributed Systems, IoT Security Infrastructure, Distributed Authentication, Biometric Cryptography, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity.

Title: Recent Developments of Some Cryptographic Research
Speaker: Wang Huaxiong (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore)
Abstract:
In this talk, I will give a brief survey of the current start-of-the-art and their challenges for a few cryptographic research topics. These topics include light weight crypto, fully homomorphic crypto, secure multiparty computation and post quantum crypto.
Biography:
Wang Huaxiong received a PhD in Mathematics from University of Haifa, Israel in 1996 and a PhD in Computer Science from University of Wollongong, Australia in 2001. He Joined NTU in 2006 and is currently an associate professor in the Division of Mathematical Sciences, where he served as the Head of Division from 2013 to 2016. Prior to that, he held research and faculty positions in serval universities including - Macquarie University (Australia), City University (Hong Kong), University of Wollongong (Australia), National University of Singapore (Singapore), Kobe University (Japan) and Fujian Normal University (China). His research interests include cryptography, information security, coding theory, combinatorics and theoretical computer science. He has been supervising over 20 PhD students.
He was on the editorial boards of Designs, Codes and Cryptography (2006 - 2011) and Journal of Communications and Networks (2004 - 2012), and is currently on the editorial boards of International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science and Journal of Cryptographic Research. He received the inaugural Award of Best Research Contribution from the Computer Science Association of Australasia in 2004.He has published 100+ refereed articles in well-respected peer reviewed high level journals ( e.g. J. Cryptology, Theor. Comput. Sci. and IEEE Trans. Information Theory) and conferences (e.g. EUROCRYPT , CRYPTO and ASIACRYPT ).
