王金凤于2010年12月份毕业于香港中文大学计算机工程系，获博士学位。主要研究领域为数据挖掘、机器学习及其应用，对多种机器学习方法都有深入的了解与研究，如决策树、模糊积分、支撑向量机和神经网络等；将传统的模糊积分首次应用到了生物信息领域；于2003年和2005年两度赴香港理工大学任研究助理，攻读博士期间参与完成了两项香港政府基金项目。至今发表了20余篇国家核心期刊以及SCI、EI检索的国际期刊和会议学术论文，先后主持了4项国家级、省部市级等项目，其中包括：国家自然科学基金青年项目1项，中国博士后科学基金项目1项，广东省科技计划项目1项目，广州市科技计划项目1项；并参与了多项科研项目，详细情况如下所列：
